Approved by State Education Comapexsion, Jiangsu Provincial Government and Nanjing Municipal Government, Nanjing Polytechnic College merged with Nanjing Agricultural College and was promoted to Jinling Institute of Technology.

JIT has developed cooperation program with the universities of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and France.

The institute focused on training competency-based talents and facing to local economy and developed industry, agriculture, economy, business management, liberal Arts, law and Art. The institute has been following the philosophy of “Characteristic, Standard, Qualified and Effective” and three principles, that is, the principle of goal---meeting the requirements of economic construction to the greatest extent; the principle of criterion---being assessed by the society; and the principle of motive force---developing by conforming to economic development.

The institute now occupies an area of 103 hectare and its construction area is 174,609 square meter. In the library there are 390000 books. It has 41 campus bases for lab and practice and 79 social practical bases with teaching facilities total costing RMB 3,700 million.

The institute edited and published 134 teaching books and achieved 15 Excellent Education Award of provincial level or above and 15 Science and Research Award of municipal level or above and undertook 13 science and research projects of municipal level or above. The Majors as Accounting, Fashion Show and Computer Application are chosen as Reforming and Testing Majors of State Education Comapexsion and Jiangsu Provincial Education Comapexsion. And State Education Comapexsion awarded Dean’s Office as Outstanding Dean’s Office of National Universities and Colleges.

Now JIT has 793 teaching staff members in which there are 11 professors and 98 associate professors 109 teachers with Double Qualification Certificates. Among the outstanding talents of provincial level or above, there are 4 people enjoying State Government Allowance, 5 awarded as National Outstanding Teacher, 1chosen as middle aged experts with outstanding contribution of provincial level, 3 chosen in the provincial “333 Program”, 3 person awarded as provincial Trans-century Talents and another 2 appraised with provincial Outstanding Education Award of Chinese Larch.

At present, JIT has 10400 full-time students, 4480 adult students and 3100 short-period trainees per year. The graduates from JIT are welcome and approved by the society for their diligence and competence. The employment rate of the graduates keeps above 95%. They are making the most of themselves in the construction of economy and culture.

With the support of the Municipal Government, the new campus of 88 hectare in Jiangning Universities Town is under construction now with construction area of 36000 square meters. The total investment amounts RMB 600 million and the prospective full time students will be 12000.

Mr.Li Yuanchao, the vice party secretary of Jiangsu CPC and general secretary of Nanjing CPC points out that the original NPC and NAC had forged a lot of practical talents who had made great contribution to Nanjing’s Development. And that the combined and promoted JIT should make clear of the direction of running schools, focus and face to Nanjing and educate practical talents for Nanjing’s basic economy construction. And JIT should become the cradle of the pioneers.
